The pomegranate is one of the seven fruits named in the Bible and is said to contain 613 seeds—one for each of the mitzvot (commandments) in the Torah. This ancient symbol is one of the oldest found in Jewish art and ritual, and has been taken on by Federation as a sign of philanthropic womens’ dedication to honoring the Jewish values of tzedek (justice) and gemilut hesed (acts of loving kindness).
Pomegranate Society members pledge an individual gift of $1,800 or more to Federation’s Annual Campaign as a declaration of their commitment to Jewish Rochester and our community around the world. Each member receives a Pomegranate Society pin, which has been distributed to more than 7,000 women over the past four decades, and is a reminder of the Jewish lives we impact every day.
This giving level represents the best of what Federation does—bringing together like-minded donors to do a world of good. We’d love for you to join us!
