The Temple Beth El Yom HaShoah Concert, Music of the Holocaust, will be presented on Tuesday, April 18th at 7PM in the Temple Beth El Sanctuary, 139 S. Winton Road, Rochester. Hazzan Jonathan Kohan will perform and comment on Yiddish songs composed in several ghettos during the Shoah. The songs, in all new arrangements by Jonathan Allentoff, will be accompanied by a live music ensemble conducted by Allentoff.

Born in Buenos Aires, Jonathan Kohan is an ordained Cantor and Jewish Studies Professor from the Latin American Rabbinical Seminary “Marshall T Meyer”. Since 2003 he has been serving as Cantor and Jewish Studies Professor in several congregations and schools in Argentina and the US, and since 2020 is the Director of the Cantorial Institute of the Seminary. Also a synagogue music composer, Cantor Kohan was one of the two finalists of the Anshe Emet Synagogue Cantorial Search in 2021, and the same year was Visiting Scholar in Holocaust Music of Clark University (Worcester, MA). He has a degree in Psychology of the University of Buenos Aires, and was a fellow of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Institute of Israel. Cantor Kohan is currently finishing his Rabbinical Studies at the Buenos Aires Seminary and his Masters in Jewish Studies in the Hebraica University of Mexico, and has performed and lectured about Jewish Music in Argentina, Europe and the US.
