The JCC's Ames-Amzalak 2004 Rochester Jewish Film Festival, July 11-18, presents:
HENRY'S STORY: A TEENAGER SURVIVES
Sunday, July 18, 4:00pm, Little Theatre, 240 East Avenue
GUESTS: Henry Silberstern, RIT filmmakers Michael Peres, Tom Zigon and Isobel Werner.
Director: Tom Zigon, US, 2004, 45 min., English, DVD, Documentary World Premier When two Rochester Institute of Technology professors from the School of Photographic Arts & Sciences heard local survivor Henry Silberstern speak about his experience, they knew his story should be captured on film for future generations. Born to a loving, middle-class Czech family, Henry survived the unimaginable cruelties imposed upon children by the Nazis.
Shipped from one concentration camp to another and eventually ending up in the hands of the infamous "Angel of Death" Dr. Joseph Mengele, Henry's story of survival is no less than astonishing. Today Henry, in cooperation with the Federation's Center for Holocaust Awareness and Information (CHAI) which helped produce the film, speaks to thousands of students each year inspiring them with his courage and fortitude. Henry and his wife Beneta reside in Rochester.
