The Federation is the central planning, fund raising and community relations organization for the Rochester Jewish community. We invite you to learn about living generously through the annual UJA Federation Campaign, which supports Jewish life in Rochester, Israel and around the world. Our planned giving program, The Foundation, also provides vital support to our community and offers inviduals vehicles for Jewish philanthropy and estate planning.
The Federation represents ALL in Rochester's Jewish community – Reform, Conservative, Orthodox, and "Just Jewish". The work of the Federation happens through the efforts of volunteers like you, supported by a small professional staff at the Federation offices at 441 East Avenue in Rochester.
The Federation received close to $5.7 million in contributions in 2012-13 in support of Jewish life in Rochester, in Israel and around the world. These funds are raised from donors like you to our annual UJA Federation Campaign and from contributions to The Foundation of the Rochester Federation – our planned giving program.

Volunteers are key in all aspects of Federation activity. From goal setting through implementation, volunteers make everything happen. Volunteers serve on committees that determine WHERE we allocate funds, WHAT initiatives most benefit the Jewish community, and HOW those initiatives are implemented. By getting involved with Federation, you become an active participant in the process of building Jewish community.
The mission of the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester is to enrich the quality of life for Jews in Rochester, Israel and around the world. The Federation meets this goal through financial resource development, planning, education, community relations, and volunteer recruitment and training. The Federation convenes agencies, synagogues, and organizations to address issues of common concern. Together, we transform Jewish tradition and values into action.
What does the Rochester Federation Support?
The Annual Campaign supports five beneficiary agencies locally, Federation operations, and social and humanitarian programs and services in Israel and around the world.
In addition, our planned giving program, The Foundation of the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester, with assets of about $43 million, supports the needs of our community in perpetuity, from generation to generation. Through The Foundation, donors realize their individual charitable goals and leave a lasting legacy for a strong and vital Jewish community into the future.
Roughly half of the dollars raised through the annual UJA Federation Campaign support the following beneficiary agencies, part of the lifeblood of the Rochester Jewish community:
The Jewish Community Center... providing quality programs and experiences that enrich cultural, social and physical health for the Jewish and general community.
Jewish Senior Life ... a state-of-the-art nursing home, residential treatment facility, and community programs providing independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing care and community-based programs for our elderly.
Hillel Community Day School... Rochester's community day school providing top-notch Jewish and secular education for kindergarten through eighth grade.
Jewish Family Service of Rochester... providing counseling services, support programs, assistance with adoption and support for the elderly.
The remainder of our annual campaign proceeds support vital social and humanitarian programming in Israel and around the world. As a partner with the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) and the Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), our service providers overseas, our fund raising efforts better the lives of Jewish people in 59 countries around the world.
Through JAFI and the JDC:
We help provide safe schools and camps for children in Israel as well as support victims of terrorism and their families. We help provide safe housing for elderly and new immigrants.
