Over $800,000 Raised at Opening Campaign Event
515 Guests in Attendance
Richard Goldstein, Tzipi Livni, Carolyn Nussbaum and Lorraine Wolch
Rochester’s 2013 UJA Federation Campaign is off to a promising start. We are delighted to report that the Campaign’s opening event in late September drew 515 generous guests. Approximately $805,000 was pledged to the annual campaign, which has been at the heart of Jewish philanthropy in Rochester for 75 years.
Giving at the opening event was up over 7% compared to the same donors’ gifts, in aggregate, in 2012. Last year’s annual campaign raised over $4.5 million in total; the campaign runs through the end of June 2013.
In Rochester the UJA Federation Campaign supports five local agencies: the Jewish Community Center, Jewish Family Service, Jewish Senior Life, Hillel Community Day School and Hillel of Rochester Area Colleges. In Israel and around the world, the Federation works through its global partners, the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), to support social and humanitarian services. Here in Rochester, the Federation implements initiatives in Jewish and Israel education, Holocaust education, interfaith awareness and community service on behalf of Greater Rochester.
Richard L. Goldstein, Chairman of the Federation’s financial Resource Development efforts, is pleased with both the attendance at the opening event, which featured guest speaker Tzipi Livni, a founder of Israel’s Kadima party, and the generous response of those in attendance. “Members of the Rochester Jewish community always stand up to be counted. They trust the Federation and its partners to use their charitable contributions to do great work. We are deeply grateful for that trust.”
Next up on the Federation’s campaign calendar is the Women’s Philanthropy Main Event, scheduled for Monday, October 29th and featuring special guest Elizabeth Fine, Director of International Initiatives for the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.
