UJC/Federation partners JAFI and JDC have helped save Georgian Jews since the outbreak of the military conflict in the nation of Georgia and the breakaway region of South Ossetia last week. Through its office in Tbilisi, JAFI has coordinated the evacuation of Jews from the city of Gori to safety in the Georgian capital. JAFI has also helped expedite the immigration of Georgian Jews to Israel. Meanwhile, JDC field staff moved into emergency mode, bringing much-needed medicine, food and water to Jews in the conflict region, and by helping evacuate many to safer locations in Georgia or Russia.  Go to www.ujc.org/georgiacrisis to learn more about the crisis and how you can help victims.

Rochester Celebrates Israel@60!

Thousands converged on and around the property of the Jewish Community Federation on Sunday, May 11th for an extraordinarily warm and exuberant celebration of Israel's 60th birthday. From the parade (50 organizations participated) to the fair with vendors of Jewish products and kosher food, to a superlative concert with the amazing Idan Raichel Project, Jewish Rochester partied! Our thanks to all who turned out to celebrate, and to our sponsors, the Farash Foundation and the Fred and Arline Kravetz Fund.
