Over two thousand rockets have been fired from Gaza into Israel by Hamas. Although many have been intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system, many have landed randomly among Israel’s civilian population as far as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
We support Israel’s right to defend its citizens, as we would expect our government to defend us. Our thoughts are with the people of Israel, and we hope they can return to their normal, peaceful lives soon.
We pray for peace everywhere.Learn how you can help-->
Federation Blog: The View from Israel
We introduced our Federation blog by sharing the experiences of a busload of your neighbors and friends as they visited Israel at a fascinating, challenging time...
The Rochester Federation joins with the Jewish Federations of North America to condemn the brutal murder of 16-year-old Palestinian, Mohammed Abu Khdeir. We have full confidence that the Israeli justice system will ensure that those responsible will be punished to the full extent of the law.
We can only repeat the powerful words of Rachel Frankel, mother of murdered Israeli teen, Naftali who said: "If a young Arab really was murdered for nationalist reasons, this is a horrifying and shocking act. There is no difference between blood and blood. Murder is murder. There is no justification, no pardon and no atonement for murder."
We Mourn Israeli Teens
The Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester mourns the loss of Eyal Yifrach, Naftali Frenkel and Gilad Shaar - the three Israeli teens senselessly murdered while hitchhiking home from school. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, whose grief we cannot imagine. May they be comforted among the mourners of Zion.
Although Israel and Rochester are separated physically by an ocean, we share one heart... and today that heart is shattered.
May those who are responsible be brought swiftly to justice.
We can only say... enough.
